Reflexology

Julie Harwood of Feet First Mobile Footcare is a highly qualified VCTC reflexologist.

Reflexology works on the principle that certain points on the foot correspond to specific parts of the body and uses thumb and finger movements to stimulate the ‘reflex’ points.

This treatment requires a great deal of skill and knowledge, there are over 7,000 nerve endings in the human foot, reflexology involves the therapist understanding how relevant points correspond to the rest of your physical and emotional well-being.  Julie is a very experienced reflexologist and takes a great deal of care to ensure that your whole foot and therefore your whole body is treated.

There are no guarantees that reflexology works for everyone, but there are many ways this deep foot massage can help common ailments that we simply learn to live with over time such as:-

  • Asthma
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Stress
  • Diabetes
  • Headaches
  • PMS
  • Sinusitis

The Treatment

Your first consultation with Julie will involve a general health check, once Julie is satisfied that Reflexology will be of benefit to you your feet are bathed and treated to a soothing foot scrub.

You will be fully clothed during the treatment and you can choose to lie down or sit in your favourite chair. The session usually lasts between 30 & 60 minutes.

During your reflexology session, you may find either physical or emotional reactions such as feeling light-headed, coughing, laughing, crying, a general feeling of relaxation and an overwhelming desire to sleep. Thirst and the disappearance of pain and discomfort are also quite common.  Each of these reactions is a sign that the treatment is effective and is releasing blockages throughout your entire body.

When Julie is finished with your session it is advisable that you take the time to continue to relax, and drink plenty of water. You may feel sleepy or have increased energy levels, you may even feel physical and mental relief and even euphoria.

After your reflexology session, you may need to go to the toilet more often as your body flushes out the harmful toxins that have been released by the treatment.  You may even experience flu-like symptoms but please be assured that these side effects will last for a maximum of 24 hours, and are all positive indications that the treatment has been beneficial.

This incredible and deeply relaxing service is available in your home with the Feet First Mobile Foot Care service or you can visit Julie at her clinic in Clitheroe.

** Julie Harwood does not practice reflexology to treat a specific illness. This treatment is never a substitute for medical treatment.
